Keap was started to make better candles; pouring them all at their Brooklyn studio, using innovative materials and plastic-free packaging. But what makes them “better”?
When they came to sourcing a wax for candles, they put sustainability on equal footing with other wax properties, and found a frustrating picture. With a frustrating set of discoveries and no quality sustainable wax fit for their purpose, they began researching and buying every type of wax there was (yes, even rice bran wax). After a long search they found their answer: coconut wax—a wax created from a majority of ‘high-melt’ coconut oil blended with other natural waxes to create a beautiful burning candle. Not only is coconut oil obtained via a natural process, it also burns slowly and cleanly, throwing scent well.
That said, it’s still not perfect: currently all coconut waxes contain some soy wax, which they’re working to remove. For these past two years, they’ve been working on developing this solution, working with fair trade and organic certified producers. In the meantime, we believe coconut wax is the best option available on the market.
Speaking of certified producers, they work closely with legendary master perfumer Christophe Laudamiel, who shares their vision of creating well-balanced compositions that brilliantly capture the world’s most evocative scents. They stay away from sweet or cloying fragrances.
An added bonus? With 100% plastic-free packaging, the brand’s candleholders are easy to repurpose as drinking glasses—every element is easy to remove. If you can’t re-use your glass, you can now return it to them free of charge through their recycling program. They aim for 100% diversion from landfill.
The Keap membership is the best and easiest way to experience their candles. Take the scent journey for yourself.
