It all started at the age of 5 when Lauren Cecchi‘s grandmother Gaetana taught her to sew and by the age of ten, she was drawing up and making her own unique designs. Fast forward to her post-college years and Lauren moved to New York where she became an Assistant Buyer for a variety of America’s most popular department stores. Noticing there were no American-made luxury brands on the shelves, Lauren decided to change the world one handbag at a time. LCNY was born that day – created out of love to provide exquisitely designed handbags and accessories, proudly made in the U.S.A., using only the highest quality materials, and constructed by diligent craftsmen who have pride in their work and a shared respect for the environment.
Choupette Social Girl: What advice do you give someone looking to fuse function and fashion in their wardrobe?
Lauren Cecchi: I would tell someone looking to fuse function and fashion into their wardrobe that it is all about versatility. Buying a neutral colored scarf can be worn year-round and worn as an accessory for warmer weather and a wrap for chillier nights on summer vacations. My handbags are also very versatile and functional for day into night transitions which is great for ever-changing plans.
CSG: Athleisure has become an over-used word in the industry. If you could rename it, what would it be called?
LC: Instead of athleisure we prefer to use the term athluxury! This word means melding luxury and sport. Life is a sport so why not incorporate luxury into everyday style?
CSG: Why make the specific color choices you did for this collection?
LC: We chose this seasons bright color story to showcase the sportier side of our handbags. Black is classic but mixed with Lemonade and Lapis it changes it from classic into sporty. The bold bright colors really draw attention to your outfit and compliment your look with a fun colored accessory.
CSG: Why is it important to you to offer accessories made in the USA?
LC: I feel it is important to design and manufacture handbags and accessories in New York City because most manufacturing is not done here anymore. In the early 1900’s around 70% of manufacturing for the USA was done here now it is almost nonexistent. I want to change that.
I like the ability to walk down the street and meet the people who make my handbags and see each style come to life. It is important for me to have a relationship with my factory and the individual craftsmen that are creating each and every item. I want to share that story with the women who wear my collection.
CSG: Who is the LCNY woman?
LC: The LCNY woman is any woman who wants to feel luxurious every day. I create handbags for women who admire craftsmanship, versatility and believe spending a little more money will get you a lot more quality. I think about where women are going, how they are getting there and what they are wearing. Knowing these things allows me to create styles for the women going on adventure or to the super market.
